BEAR O’BRIAN
Monday – Friday: 6am – 11am
Saturday: 6am – 10am
Born Wade Collier on May 18, 1960, in Manchester, Georgia, I entered radio in my hometown at WFDR in 1978. In 1980, I moved to WRNZ Z-96 in Augusta, Georgia where the name ‘Bear O’Brian’ was born. In 1981, I worked at 107.3 WCGQ, a sister station of Kissin’ 99.3. After staying there 8 years, I then traveled the country for about 18 months performing stand-up comedy.
I went back into radio in Macon, Georgia in 1991, then on to Montgomery, Alabama at WMCZ downtown in the Bell Building. Next, I worked at a station in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and then two years later went back to Montgomery to WBAM when it went to a country format in 1994. I then worked at WHHY when they went country and was re-named ‘Cat Country’. In late 2008, While pulling my last stint in Montgomery radio at “Bama Country, I felt like it was time to come home to Columbus and this time for good.. It’s so great to be back working with a great group of people that I’ve been friends with for a long, long time!
I am married to Mandi, who is a Technology teacher at Hannan Magnet Academy, here in Columbus….I have a son, Tristan, who is married to Amanda with three children, and a daughter, Sydney, who is married to Caleb Frazier.
**Bear O’Brian has been the “Reader’s Choice” Award Winner for 12 years running. He’s involved with St. Jude, Children’s Miracle Network as well as various local charities including the Harris County Rodeo, Columbus Hospice, and anything that is sponsored by WKCN FM.
