U2 have recorded a new version of The Pogues’ Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah for an upcoming tribute album honoring Shane MacGowan. The release was announced as part of 20th Century Paddy: The Songs of Shane MacGowan, a collection built around songs associated with the late Irish singer and songwriter.
The tribute project is scheduled for release on November 13, 2026, and will feature interpretations by a wide range of artists. The announced lineup includes Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Primal Scream, Steve Earle, and Dropkick Murphys, alongside U2’s contribution.
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah originally appeared in 1988 and reflects the mix of punk energy and traditional Irish influences that helped define The Pogues’ sound. MacGowan, who died in 2023, remains closely associated with the band’s most recognizable work and with a songwriting style rooted in Irish storytelling.
U2’s cover adds another Irish connection to the tribute, bringing one of the country’s biggest rock bands into a project focused on MacGowan’s musical legacy.
